Welcome to mathematics educators in the Toronto area. Now in its 25th year, the Toronto Educators Association for Mathematics (TEAMS) is a Toronto chapter of the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education (OAME). Officially, we represent mathematics educators in the central and west parts of the TDSB from the former Toronto, Etobicoke, East York and York Boards of Education, the TCDSB, University of Toronto and George Brown College, but educators are free to choose the OAME chapter to which they belong.

Our organization promotes mathematics education by organizing annual conferences for mathematics educators, holding our local TEAMS Math Olympics for grade 7 & 8 students, where the winners move on to the Ontario Math Olympics, to communicate with our members on issues in mathematics education, and to provide resources to teachers of mathematics in all grades.

We held a very successful conference at Dante Alighieri Catholic Academy on October 27, 2016. The theme was”Interactive Math”, and we had a full complement of workshops for educators at all grade levels. We are looking forward to hosting the next TEAMS conference on October 26, 2017. The theme will be, “Math Is Not Just An Algorithm”.

Our local Math Olympics was held at Madonna CSS on April 1, 2017, and was an overwhelming success, with about 80 participants from grade 7 and 8 from across Toronto. TEAMS hosted the Ontario Math Olympics in Toronto on May 26 & 27, 2017. Congratulations to Tyler Tian of TEAMS , who had the highest score of all grade 8 boys in the individual test, and to Lev Stefanovich-Thomson, Audrey Song, Christian Bongalon and Kyna Wu of TEAMS for winning the team building competition.

The 2017 OAME annual conference was held at St. Lawrence College in Kingston on May 11 – 13. The theme was “And Now for Something Completely Different”. The 2018 conference will be held at Humber College North Campus in Toronto.

Members and non-members alike are welcome to take part in our activities. Members receive a discount at all of our local conferences, a discount at OAME conferences, email newsletters from TEAMS and OAME, and a quarterly magazine from OAME. Consider joining TEAMS and benefit from all we have to offer.
