NWOAME MATH NIGHT

Posing Challenging Questions about Mathematics Streaming and Educational Policy Change

Presented by Joseph Flessa

The purpose of this presentation is to engage teachers, administrators, and other educators in an examination of the policy and practice dilemmas regarding academic streaming in Ontario high schools. The talk will have three major sections: research background and policy debates; school and classroom level realities; and questions to ask moving forward.

Joseph Flessa is Associate Professor of Policy and Politics at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. A former teacher and principal, his research explores the ways that policy and school level leadership can be both tools for and obstacles to school improvement in diverse contexts.
